The Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) was established in 1996 as a non-governmental organization, with its Secretariat head quartered in Islamabad, Pakistan to provide a platform for Ombudsmen and similar institutions of accountability and grievance redress, working in Asia. The AOA currently has 23 members from 17 countries and is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors. The Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman) of Pakistan has had the privilege of being elected as the President since inception. The Wafaqi Mohtasib was re-elected in April this year as the President of AOA for a four year term, with the Ombudsman for the Philippines as the Vice-President and the Ombudsman of Hong Kong as the Secretary of the Board.
